While you may love or hate the design, there's no denying the sharp jump in price that this card commands
Its easy to see why this artwork came out on top, with a fantastic sunset scheme and gorgeous pastel colors
The first is a triggered ability: "When this permanent enters, target player may search their library for a card named Mothers Yamazaki, reveal it, put it into their hand, then shuffle." The second and third abilities represented by Mothers Yamazaki's "partner with itself" keyword modify the rules for deck construction in the Commander variant and have no function outside of that variant

(Also, Sol Ring is a 1-drop, and most ramp really starts on turn two, so I think it's better to think in terms of what we can reliably get, rather than luckily starting with one of 99 cards.) So, let's say I'm building around a 5-drop Commander who really needs to be on the 'field before I can start doing my thing
Two life for a card isn't the best deal, but for otherwise bad ones it's wonderful and back then it was even better
